By working with established, esteemed non-profit organizations, we are able to achieve more, and help them achieve more. We have worked with the following organizations to develop creative, engaging programs that further their efforts - and ours - to make the world a better place.
World Food Program USA raises money which it can use to support the work of United Nations World Food Program and hunger relief programs throughout the world. In the Fall of 2009 and 2010, DoubleTree and WFP USA worked together to teach children about the hunger that happens in their own neighborhoods and around the globe. DoubleTree encouraged children to collect non-perishable food donations for local charities in their communities and matched their efforts with a donation to WFP for every food item collected. Due to the incredible success of its Fall 2009 food drive campaign, DoubleTree was able to offer substantial support in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake with a generous contribution to fund WFP's School Meals program in Haiti. School meals are one of the most important parts of WFP's reconstruction efforts, offering children critical nutrition and an education in a time of crisis. Thanks to this relationship with WFP, thousands of schoolchildren will be provided with the food and knowledge they need to grow up healthy and strong. The Arbor Day Foundation is one of the world's largest nonprofit tree-planting organizations, with nearly 1 million members planting 7 million trees per year. Founded in 1972, the organization works to advance the celebration of Arbor Day, the United States' oldest environmental holiday. Arbor Day is celebrated in all 50 states and reaches around the world. DoubleTree Hotels was rewarded with the prestigious 2008 "Promise to the Earth Award" from the Arbor Day Foundation. The award is presented annually to corporations for outstanding commitments to environmental stewardship and commitment. Through our relationship with the Arbor Day Foundation, DoubleTree has planted more than 250,000 trees across North America and created the Exploring Trees Inside and Out traveling museum exhibit designed to connect more than one million visitors with the wonders of nature. The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity. It has 300,000 members and supporters. The Trust has four key aims: i) No further loss of ancient woodland; ii) Restoring and improving the biodiversity of woods; iii) Increasing new native woodland; iv) Increasing people's understanding and enjoyment of woodland. Established in 1972, the Woodland Trust now has more than 1,000 sites in its care covering approximately 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres). By bringing two great "tree brands" together in a collective community outreach effort, DoubleTree has entered into a long-term relationship with the Woodland Trust to develop a series of nature education initiatives that encourage and inspire people across the UK to connect with and appreciate the importance of woodlands and the great outdoors. Access to its sites is free. Further news can be found at www.woodlandtrust.org.uk
WWF is the world's leading conservation organization, working in 100 countries for nearly half a century. With the support of almost 5 million members worldwide, WWF is dedicated to delivering science-based solutions to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth, halt the degradation of the environment and combat climate change. In the Fall of 2006, DoubleTree worked with WWF through the hotel brand's award-winning Teaching Kids to CARE program. DoubleTree team members volunteered their time to teach 10,000 children across the U.S and Canada about the importance of saving endangered animals from extinction. DoubleTree symbolically adopted 2,500 endangered animals through World Wildlife Fund's Species Adoption Center. The funding for the adoptions - provided by DoubleTree to support World Wildlife Fund - helps fight the threats all endangered animals face to prevent animals from disappearing forever.
