Exploring Trees. Appreciating Nature

The Exploring Trees Inside and Out was a traveling, interactive exhibit that let children aged 2 through 12 experience trees as a habitat for a wide range of animals and learn everything that trees do for the environment. Over the three years that this exhibit toured science centers, botanical gardens, and children's museums across the United States, it reached more than one million people. Created by DoubleTree by Hilton in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and the Dimensions Research Foundation, the 2500 square foot exhibit featured a series of "sensation stations" that visitors could:

  • Crawl inside a giant log and imagine it as a habitat for a variety of creatures
  • Listen to the sounds of various tree-dwelling animals
  • Smell the scents of trees
  • Discover some of the products we get from trees
  • Play and perch in a larger-than-life bird's next
  • Become a forest-dwelling creature, in an animated, blue-screen flying experience
