Weekend Guide

Plan the perfect weekend at the DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin hotel, centrally located on Darwin Esplanade, with beautiful harbor views and within walking distance to Bicentennial Park and bustling downtown Darwin and Smith Street Mall.

  • Darwin Airport is approximately 10.5 km from Darwin City. A taxi ride will cost $25-$30. DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin is situated overlooking the stunning harbour views of the Esplanade.
  • After you have checked-in, head over to the historical Vic Arcade and enjoy breakfast at The Pearl. Whilst there, check out the famous Paspaley Pearls and Di Croco for some luxurious crocodile accessories.
  • Afterwards, Doctor's Gully Aquascene Fish Feeding is a fantastic activity for all ages. Aquascene also features lush gardens and a rainforest which makes for a pleasant stroll.

  • Immerse yourself amongst the lush tropical gardens at Poolside Restaurant at DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin and enjoy fresh culinary flare cooked in the open kitchen. We suggest you try the delicious pan fried Tasmanian salmon with braised fennel and dill puree.
  • Take a Wetland Cruise. Located only 90 minutes from Darwin, Corroboree Billabong offers plenty of crocodiles, a huge amount of birdlife and nature at its best. This pristine wetland is only 104km from Darwin - perfect for visitors wanting half day Darwin tours.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Fannie Bay Gaol and experience some intriguing local history. Whilst in Fannie Bay, pop over to The Cool Spot for a great coffee with a scenic view over the Harbour.

  • Head back to the hotel and freshen up before enjoying Harbour Cruise. Savour local produce with sparkling wine whilst watching the sunset in the serenity of Darwin’s Harbour.

  • Wake early and take a 10 minute taxi ride to Nightcliff Markets. This market is bustling with locals every Sunday enjoying quality coffee and an array of locally grown food and produce. There's great live entertainment available and children's performers to excite the kids as well.
  • Just a stone’s throw away is Darwin’s famous Crocosaurus Cove  - Get up close and personal with a saltwater crocodile and enjoy the world’s largest display of Australian reptiles right in the heart of Darwin. If you’re a thrill seeker, try the Cage of Death or feed a big croc!
  • We suggest you have an early lunch at Magic Wok before this afternoon’s adventure. Magic Wok is Darwin’s iconic Chinese Restaurant and certainly a place not to miss if you're an adventurous foodie. Try crocodile, buffalo, emu, horse and more, tossed in with fresh vegetables by the talented chefs.

  • Head to Darwin’s Transit Centre to experience the Jumping Crocodile Cruise. You will be taken down the Adelaide River, only to be met by crocs just metres away. If you dare, you will get the chance to hold a python snake.

  • We recommend you spend your Sunday evening at the ‘Coral Reef by Night’ show and seafood night. Take part in a guided tour of the exhibition, followed by superb Northern Territory Cuisine overlooking Darwin Harbour. After dining, you will return to the displays in darkness, where the rare and beautiful phenomena of fluorescing corals and animals can be seen and enjoyed. The night is then concluded with a torch light tour of the nocturnal reef world.
  • Afterwards, take a short walk to il Lido Waterfront Kitchen and enjoy a delicious cocktail with stunning views of Stokes Hill Wharf. There are often great live bands playing on the weekend.
